Default Tippet ring question?

Hi guys after a fair few fishing trips ive finally got my casting to a fair standard and am understanding more and more about the sport.Recently I have been fishing with a point fly and one dropper and actually fishing more and not swearing and un doing tangles . My question is are tippet rings first off any good and also how are they for tying droppers on to? and while im here I have a line which I purchased a few weeks back that even after a good strech for ten mins still coils any advice?

Tippet rings: very marmiteish. Personally I don't like them. They have there uses but they are very fiddly. What would be your thinking on using them over a conventional dropper knot?

Coiling fly line: I like to stretch for about and hour. I think stick it in a basin off warm soapy water and give it a bathe. Normally sorts all coils out.

My reason is today I had a savage take on the dropper and got snapped off,I dont like to think of the fish tailing around the dropper and point fly.I know I tied the knot right and was using 6lb line.It was very windy and I was drifting a buzzer with a dry on point and my line was bowed badly ( unsure if thats a factor ) was thinking a dropper tied streight to the ring is stronger than a water knot??

Don't know about that but ive been using them for yrs and can't remember having a failure.I find them easy to use if stored on a safety pin, which makes storing and tying the first knot a doddle. They are also handy for using with tapered leaders, tippets and droppers as you only have to re tie on a tippet/dropper and not a leader through repeated fly changes, thus saving you money if you use expensive stuff like fluoro.Roman Moser make the best ones for trout fishing or you could go cheap and use ones carp guys use
