Unhappy Leader Line

Firstly, Hey guys, Its my first post.

Secondly, I have Fulling Mills 6lb Flourocarbon and have been using it while buzzer/nymph fishing but it keeps breaking about 1cm, if that from the dropper knot (3 turn water knot). SO, I thought maybe the 6lb was too weak. I decided to upgrade it to a 8lb Flouro and the exact same thing still happens. pretty annoying.

I have seen other threads about Fulling Mills Flouro and they seem to suffer the same thing. I was wondering, are there any other leader lines I could maybe use for buzzer fishing ? I use flouro because of its "invisibility" ( and i seem to HOOK more fish while using it) coincidence, maybe!

To be honest I havent been fly fishing for long, 2 years maybe and just got into buzzer fishing under the indicator. It's costing me a fortune in flies though

Please Help

You are either using the wrong tag, (should be tag pointing at point fly) or you are pulling knot too tightly without serious moistining of knot. Dont use thumb nails too pull knot as this just causes crinkly section above knot, i.e. leader hs been weakened. just gently pull all tags together.
I use world class flouro for everything from trout to bones, aint had problems with 3 turn water knot breaking!

use 3X Riverge Grand Max and a figure of eight knot for your droppers and then come back and tell me it broke If you do this right it will not break unless you are holding the fish too hard.Your breaks read like damaged line when forming the dropper knot. Not sure how it can happen with a water knot but there you go.Some folks here who put their rigs under pressure use just a two turn water knot in higher BS fluoro. If you still have issues suggest a one on one with someone first hand who can help you with knots. It is no disgrace some folks who fish a lot tie terrible weakened knots and then blame the tippet. Not saying you have done this by the way.I have no experience with FM tippets.

Best JP

I use fulling mill all the time and can't remember the last time it failed....even managed a 16lb'er on 7lb b/s.

I use a 2 turn water knot and its plenty strong enough.

You must be doing something wrong.....moistening the knot is pretty much essential with fluoro.

I do think im doing something wrong, maybe the moistening of the knot when I pull it together and I also thought I found a new trick when I used my nails to pull it together lol this proved me wrong in the comments above

oooh well thats why I joined this forum...probelms lead to solutions

Thanks for your help

I stopped using fulling mill cos it kept snapping very easily..

Go buy yourself some airflo sightfree. Its miles better imo

A friend of mine has said the exact same thing about fulling mill and recommended the airflo sightfree... sounds the best option, although it is slightly more expensive...ill probably save that with the amount of flies i lose!

Thanks

and I did precisely the opposite, been using fulling mill without problems for 2 years, not a single knot failure. Borrowed a spool of airflo from a mate because I ran out and the very next fish I had a knot failure on a dropper.
