Tree's blown down, van's and trucks on their sides and still some fisheries let boats out in these strong winds!!!! I know times are tough financially for the fisheries but common sence has got to prevail here. There are limits beyond which the boats are NOT allowed out - it's about time they were adhered to before someone else has the misfortune of capsizing a boat. We as anglers should also realize that if a fishery makes a decission not to let the boats out, it's in our best interests and should support that decission and not condem it.

Alowen is right in what he says.

Even though things are tough, safety has to come first.responsibility lies both with the fishery and also with the angler aswell.
If the weather is too bad,why even think about going out into it.better to be able to fish another day, than risk life and limb.

The engine came loose and flipped the boat dunking both in shallow water, however tackle was lost, a loomis £800 for starters
Still dodgy though

Dodgy is right. Just lucky it was only some tackle that was lost - expensive or not, it can be replaced!! Every year people lose their lives here on Lake Taupo because they under estimate how quickly things can and do go wrong.

Not good When I was a teenager I used to fish at Rutland a lot with my Grandpa who had a season permit; used to feel pretty stupuid when he insisted on checking the engine, fuel tank, fuel lines (he was an engineer by trade so this took some time) and asked the warden on the dock for a demonstration of the safety equipment for my benefit and anyone else who didn't fish their regularly.

He also used to go to great lengths to check the weather reports for a day/two before we went and we'd run a recce the night before we went if he was doubtful about conditions

Seemed stupid at the time but awfully sensible in light of recent posts about boating issues.........
