Default Hanningfield double!!!

Well it was rather windy today, dare I say I wish we hadnt bothered as it was so windy, hardly anyone was out....... me and dad were fishing the bank in middlemead bay, Dad had already caught a quite respectable 5 pounder, as for me, it was looking like yet another blank at hanningfield, I swapped pegs and flies many times, it was real difficult casting side onto the wind, then I decided to tuck myself in the corner of middlemead bay..... I was slow retrieving on my intermediate line, using my new weighted orange egg fly pattern.........then "THUMP", something sizable hit my egg fly........ 10 minutes later and after many charges in and out, dad managed to net this double rainbow for me, I was cautious not to play it too hard, when we got it onto the grass this proved to be worthwhile as the hook just fell out of its bottom lip....... I drove it around to the lodge and it weighed in at 13 Lb 10 oz, aparrently its the biggest bank caught fish this year at hanningfield......cripes, its only the 4th fish I have ever caught at hanningfield!......the ranger thinks its one of the cage fish they released 3 weeks ago after fattening them up for a year or two, I guess it liked the egg pattern as it looked like a pellet....... hey - I'm not complaining!!!......thanks dad, couldnt have done it without you ;-)

Good grief Knighty, you only went and beat my 12 pounder! Congratulations! From what I heard, two other doubles were caught last Thursday (the day before I got mine) from a boat fishing Middlemead Bay - so that's at least four doubles from Hanningfield in the past week!

yeah - never thought I would though!!!....just checked the essex and suffolk water website and it says the biggest this year from hanningfield is 11 pound 6 ounce......but the white board on the launch at hanningfield lodge says 14 pound is the best so far this year, which I guess means the biggest is most recent.....either way I'm chuffed!

And what is wrong with a spinner, Charlie..........at least most spin-fisherman's feet are dry after a day out on Hanningfield..

Cracking fish BTW - well deserved and glad you landed it - well done!!!
