Default fly line with thick running line?

HI guys,

I am hoping someone can recommend me a fly line that has a thick running line.

I have an armoury of lines in my tackle box and all of them barring one old one (hence the need for a new one of these) all have thin running lines. The old one i use on windy days but it knackered has a very thick running line and barerly noticable weight forward and the whole line feels thick. Not the line of choice for everyone but in a windy day and line getting tangles around you feet this one just wont tangle at all. Feels like an old cortland.

My mate recommended the old orvis lines but hvning checked out the latest generation lines and they all come with thin running lines.

Anyone any recommendations?

I havent come across such a line, but you could try a double taper, cut it in half
and you now own two lines. PJ

The old one does seem more like a double taper.

Most modern WF lines have thin running lines.

How about a WF line with a longer than standard belly?

I agree the other line sounds like a DT.

It is a double tapered line that you are seeking.

Icejohn,

The Cortland Western Drifter has a thicker running line and has a very high floating tip. The thicker running line is great for mending but the very high floating tip takes a bit of getting used to. I've got a 7 weight and it is superb for the single handed salmon fishing that it is used for.

The fly line is most definitely a weight forward. I have double tapers but don't like them much.

About a year ago i won a greys GRXi line .This has a fairly thick running line but a short head.I dont use this line much but if i underline i can aerialise some of the running line and the thicker running line keeps the loop pretty stable-may be worth a try

Hope this helps Nick

On windy days use a line one size lighter than your rod and let out more line during the cast to load your rod . The lighter line will cut through the wind far better than a heavy one

I still say that it's a double taper line that he is should be looking at.
