Default Will this do for a 5# rod

I am looking to get myself a 5# rod for some of the smaller stillwaters that I fish and for some river fishing this year. I have a Okuma Integrity I 7/8 weight reel that I got free with a rod and it is a lot smaller than any 7# reel that I have.
I would never put a 7# line on this reel and that is the reason I have never used it and I was wondering if this would be an okay balance on a 5# rod as it is so small? It would save me having to buy a new reel aswell as a rod and new lines.

Thanks

I think the only answer would be to try for yourself.Reel weight/balance is a personal thing

Thanks for the info Neil, I will give it a go when I get my rod.

I have just looked on Garry Evan's and they are doing a Sonik SK3 9' 5/6# rod with a free Sonik sk3 7/8 cassette reel, backing and a line for £105. This seems like a very good deal. Anyone know if this rod is any good? some info on the reel would be great as it is the weight that I do most of my fishing.

Thanks

Cant vouch for the rod but the SK3 is a great reel, although it might be a tad heavy on a 5/6 rod at 170gm.Again its a personal thing, some like heavy ish reels on there rods others light

Hey Neil,

I wont be using the reel on this rod as I have a few 7# rods and will use it for them and the Okuma reel on the lighter rod.

Thanks for the info on the reel, do you have one?

Cheers
