Default Favorite fly?

I was fishing the other day using a Peter Ross fly, caught a stockie rainbow, and it suddenly struck me, this has to be my most succesful fly pattern. Using it I have caught rainbows, wild brownies, perch, pike (accidentally when chasing perch) and chub (in a fast-flowing river!). What a brilliant fly it is! It must be my favorite. So what's yours?

Dave.

I have very limited experience but a corixa takes first place for me.

Just realised I have a dozen Peter Ross' in my collection. Whats your method on these?

Petr Ross Trout and Sea Trout Fly

Peter Ross, a store keeper in Killin, Perthshire, developed his namesake "Peter Ross" as a variant of the Teal & Red in the 1890s'. His creation has become, over the last 100 years, one of the very best lough, lake, stillwater fly patterns. Works well singlerly and as the point fly on a team of wets.

I fish now mainly for sea-trout and the Peter-Ross is my point fly.
I fish the Wear but the peter-ross has worked on the Till also.
I fish two flies the other being a Bibio on the top dropper.
Confidence in my two flies is what i put my use down to.

It would have to be, whatever fly i'm catching on. But for simplicity & effectiveness it would be the Montana nymph.

I suppose it depends on the time of year and conditions but i suppose my most successful fly has to be the diawl bach.It has movement and in its varoius guises suggests so many food sources. At the moment dark skinny ones are doing the business. With the addition of flash materials they would pass for a mini lure

all the best Nick

No real fave but if I had to choose one fly only for ever, then without a doubt, it would be a Black Pennell. Trout, sea trout, salmon, grayling, perch...all like a Pennell.

Chris.

When I first took up fly-fishing on our local reservoirs I was told, by an old friend, that a Peter Ross was the only fly I would ever need. After numerous blanks, but success with other flies, I gave up on it! Now, 35 years on, I can still say that, I have never caught a fish on a Peter Ross
