Default Home countries,

Which of our nations offers the best fishing? I've noticed a lot of our fellow English anglers are heading across the border, is this because Scotland offers a better quality & value of money for
fishing?

Which is it to be? 'best quality', and 'best value for money' are two different things.

Alot of enlightened Scotsmen head south of the border every year, making the 'pilgrimage' to places like Rutland, Chew, Blagdon, Grafham etc for high quality Rainbow trout fishing that they just don't get north of the border. Likewise for anglers from Wales and Ireland. It's a change too. Hence, I go north a couple of times a season for the quality Scottish brown trout fishing, and to get 'away from it all'.
Each country has something unique and special to offer, and I don't think it's fair, or even possible to say which is 'best'... so I won't be voting in the poll.

For me, Scotland has the best of what really appeals to me - wild brown trout fishing on wild stillwaters. England has the best Rainbow waters. Wales has a little of everything, including superb Salmon and Sea trout - just a shame the Welsh live there And Ireland, well, it's Ireland.... don't we all wish we'd been born there?

Four great nations, one kingdom, best game fishing in the world.

I'm with Scratch on this.

Our nations deliver wonderful game fishing offerings peculiar to each. Depending on which offering you want to partake of, at the time, determines what is best for you, there and then.

Today, the offering I love the most is available to me in England, but that does not necessarily mean that England is best, all the time, to me or anyone else. Putting patriotism aside, there is nowhere for my vote on this poll.

With Scratch and Richard 100% ,love my lochs, lynns, loughs and lakes not to mention the ressers.
Wonderful rivers here, down south.Fabulous rivers all over all different tiny streams here and there.
Sadly no where near the time or finance to fish them all as much as i would like .
Springs to mind a CS&N song 'if you cnat be with the one you love ,love the one your are with "fishing most any where is good,I even had a fair evening on the city fringes and scenicly challenged Walthamstowe resser this weekend just gone. Not quite Currane but there was fish and water and fresh(ish) air ,and a 20 minute trip with no major deisel cost.

Well said Scratch.

Certain English limestone and chalkstreams for the best dry fly fishing, and lowland reservoir boat fishing.

Scotland for value, free fishing on many lochs for free rising trout, the country also some cripplingly expensive salmon fishing.

Wales for the best sewin fishing in the world, on the Dyfi and the Towy, also the best fast water barbel fishing on the Hay-on-Wye beats which is shared with England on this border river.

Ireland, for pike (which shouldn't really be there) and pretty much all of the other reasons listed above, only with extra craic.

Best game fishing in Europe or the Northern Hemisphere... forgeting Iceland, Scandanavia, the Coal Peninsula, Alaska and Canada of course you are matey...

Best wild brown trout fishery in Europe would have to be Lough Corrib maybe contested by Loughs in Scotland or Sweden.
All fabulous fisheries.

I voted Scotland as Ireland is a rip-off and the three stated Brown Tout Capitals of the world (Chile, Patagonia and Gore in the NZ south Island) owe their existence to progeny sourced from Scotland. So we must pay homage indeed!
