Default Hip Flask, Whisky and Assynt

Evening Chaps,

The grandparents came for dinner this evening and brought with them a gift for my forthcoming fishing trip (Assynt), a hip flask.

I must confess that at age 24, my knowledge of whisky/port or any other suitable hip flask contents are limited.

Can anybody on the Forum point me in the direction of a suitable short to accompany my lochan experience?

I'm sure some of you guys must know a good malt when you see it.....

I appreciate that this is not strictly fishing related but any advice is welcomed

Matt

If given a choice would you eat a highland toffee bar or a cola bottle with sour crystals all over it?

Would you drink a rich brown ale or a crisp pint of eurofiz?

If you answer yes to toffee flavours or astringent acidic ones will probably sway the sort of scotch you should be trying.

It has to be a malt whisky for me preferably from the Isle of Islay such as:

Ardbeg
Lagavulin
Laphroaig
Port Ellen
Bowmore
Caol Ila
Bunnahabhain
Bruichhladdich

Slangevar

Another vote for the 16 year old Lagavulin, it's an absolute cracker!

Enjoy!

It matters very little what others like as taste is a personal thing. I like anything rich and toffee like with lots of peat but you may not. Its a bit like telling a lager drinker to try brown ale, they aint going to like it.
The best thing to do is find a pub with a good selection and better still a landlord who knows his way round a malt and try a few.

The fun begins the next day when you cant remember what the hell you drank but hey, the fun is in trying them all again.........

I collect whiskey, i would always go for a good Islay single malt every time. I've got a nice bottle for sale. A duke of Edinburgh limited edition.
