Default Can someone explain...please.

Hi all,
I can't get my head round this, so hope someone can help me out. I've booked a cottage in Scotland for August, right by the River Esk (lower, near Canonbie), the website gave the impression that you'd be able to fish (though I knew I'd probably have to pay...which is fine). I'm waiting now for a leaflet to be posted out, but have found what I think are the prices

it talks about the beats, and says min 6 days 3 rods ???? -also, £36 + vat per day ????

I don't get it. Is it that they only give out 3 day tickets hence 3 rod for those beats? Do I have to pay for 6 days?

Please note -this is not me whinging about it -I expected to pay for the privilege (though this does seem quite steep for a newbie who probably won't catch anything apart from the occasional overhanging bow, or tuft of grass.)

How does this work? I'm sure some of you will have come across this before, I've posted a link if my explanation don't make sense

Thanks

Baz

It means you take the three rods for the six days, which is the minimum booking, costing £777.60. You can then try and offset that by selling the spare rods. Unless you know twelve people who will take them you will have difficulty in selling them.

If the cottage is on the Esk does it have fishing rights. You should be able to fish for Brown Trout on their beat but not for migratories.

Lots of salmon beats are let this way.
minimum number of days, and rods, to be booked.
You could always go to Canonbie and buy day ticket for relevant day ticket beats however!
Or investigate the possibility of day tickets on the beat you require.
Lots of beats advertise minimum day/rod availability, but often have one or two days/rods which are not taken up.

Thanks guys,

This makes sense now...will wait til the leaflet comes and see if they have single days on this stretch available, or might nip into Canonbie (as Bert suggests). Either way, I'm goin' fishing Just gotta break the news to Her-in-Doors.

Thanks again

Baz
