I use them sometimes, i know they are supposed to be more for river work, but they can give you a delicate presentation when you are trying not to spook fish, and i use them more at those times.

However that said, i've fished a full day with them on a normal stillwater and reservoir days and the fish did not seem to mind at all and were still willing to hammer a fly when using a five foot furled leader, with only 6ft of fluorocarbon between it and the fly.

I would say they neither hindered or hampered my days fishing, personal choice, though i'd think more used on rivers.

Best regards
Jim

Furled leaders are great for people who can't cast a real leader properly. Learn to cast a real leader, and you will see just how much of a liability furled leaders actually can be. Theres definatly a place for them if you think that you need them, but in reality, they are a compromise to forgive a multitude of casting and setup errors.
Sorry, but that's my opinion... disregard it as you please.

I mainly fish on rivers & have heard of them but never used them or even seen one in person.

Are they used in place of a tapered leader?

Are they available in various weights & lengths?

If you fish regularly there is no doubt to the economic advantages to fishing furled setups ,all you need is one roll of suitable tippet some mud/muclinn or such your fly box and away you go, they also form a nice neat connection to the flyline when loop to looped . Why complicate things any further. PJ

It's my opinion, thats all. I have tried furled leader in my fihing situation, and am unable to find advantage in using them, over a well constructed and deployed mono leader. I'm talking about small stream close casting light work, that needs to be highly accurate and direct.
My views can be controvercial at times, and really don't feel like getting into another bun fight over this. They work well for a certain casting style, that doesn't require a huge amount of technical ability... that's all.
