Default Dry Fly whats going wrong

I fish a long leader about 15ft I put fly floatant on the fly (snowbee) I cast out and the bloody thing sinks.

I am using a 6lb fluro carbon leader i think its the weight of the line dragging them under.

whilst on the subject i experimented tonight the only flies i could get to float was sedges and may flies. I tried an emerger it sank like a stone

I am using quality fles (snowbee)

please tell me whats occurring

various but size 14/16 mostly.

I only started in Feb so this is very new to me

I did have 2 rainbows this evening on may fly , late on ,but earlier afternoon loads of trout taking off surface thats why I tried an emerger buzzer, i thought it would sit just beneath surface it went to the bottom quicker than the titanic

You have figured it yourself ,it's the flurocarbon . the reason it does'nt sink the larger dry flies is that they have a larger surface area -displacement- and are made from more boyant materials, PJ

It's almost certainly the fluorocarbon.
I tried the same with Frog Hair & not only did the fluoro sink the fly within seconds, but also the last few feet of my flyline!
Switch to a copolymer tapered leader for your dries & this problem should be a thing of the past.

Try the maxima range, it sits better in the water. Plus it's been around for years. I use it.

My dry fly fishing improved no end when I switched to co-polymer, try snowbee magic line or fulling mill, I think they are evenly matched products but the snowbee is better vfm.

Yes, as said, it is probably the fluro pulling it down, but also try the same without any fly floatant. Sometimes too much floatant has the opposite effect to the desired effect, and don't put floatant onto a fly that is already wet.
