Default Blairgowrie - Dundee area

Hi all, I'm new around here.

I've just taken up fly fishing again (used to fish a little as a kid). I'm looking for somewhere near to Blairgowrie or Dundee to fish, someplace good for a novice perhaps. Fishing for trout, river or loch is fine.

Maybe a little advice on flies that might be a good choice too would be good.

Thanks for any help.

Go into Kate Flemings, you'll get plenty good advice there.

As per previous advice, you will find some nice trout fishing on the Ericht, and the town water is as good a place to start as any. It's not, in many places, the easiest beat on the river to fish with a fly rod, unless you can roll/spey cast with the single hander, but in other spots you will find easy access to some good runs and pools. It is relatively inexpensive too. As per previous, speak to Kate Fleming, and have a wee look through her clearance stuff if you are looking for some new equipment.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to pop into Kate Flemings when I'm next back home.

I've just got my rod, reel and line. Very eager to get out and have some fun, hopefully out this coming weekend. I'll let you know how i get on.

If you're happy going out in a boat, Lintrathen and Butterstone are very near you and are both great waters.

Butterstone getting a very bad press this season, several clubs have cancelled their visits and prices have soared.

I haven't fished it since the new owners took over, so can only go on what I've heard fadpasser and that is that it's been fishing great. The prices have soared but the guys I know who were up had plenty fish - on a couple of separate trips - and said they were good quality and strong fighting.
