Default books

Hi all,
I'm slightly obsessed with fishing, as many of you are. I love reading through the posts on here and basically, if I'm not fishing, I like to be sorting out or cleaning my gear, reading fishing books and magazines etc.

Wondering if anyone could recommend some good interesting books for me to read......always keen to learn some new skills from a book and try and put them to the test next time I'm out!

Bit more info would be handy...do you fish rivers or still waters? Do you tie any flies?

Chris.

Falcus and Bullers Fresh-water Fishing covers all aspects of fishing with lots of history. Throughout the book there are frequent-often substantial -quotations from angling literature ancient and modern. A classic, worthy of a place on anyones book shelf.

Like yourself i also enjoy reading books. But tying your own flies is an amazing step & opens a whole new world. North Country flies is a great book also matching the hatch by Pat O'Reilly.

Having taught fly tying for nearly 30 years, and in the absence of writing my own book, I would suggest Skip Morris. Yes, he is American but in his first book, 'Clear and Simple' it is just that. He has a manner of putting techniques into words which very good and helpfull. He also does a book on Dries and one on Nymphs, whilst I accept these are primarily for the American market his outlook on techniques in both is exceptional. I think the publisher is Frank Amoto but I know that Steve Parton may have a few copies left. 01159463572. After digesting those, you would do a lot worse than buying his own 'Fly School Notes'

A good read for anyone who fishes and appreciates a good book is Negley Farsons, Going Fishing.
I could also recommend Harry Plunket Greenes Where the Bright Waters meet, and whilst not to everyones liking i have a soft spot for the writing of Hugh Falkus too.

Brian Clarke - The pursuit of stillwater trout.

Its one of my favourite books full stop, never mind just fishing!! Nicely written witha quirky sense of humour and follows his own entry into fly fishing so you empathise without him throughout and makes all things seem possible

Getting a bit old now though so easy to pick up on ebay for a couple of quid

Chris
