Default Rutland Newbie!

Hi all,

Going to Rutland for two days boat fishing this week. Never been before. I'm excited but a bit daunted by it's size.

Has anyone got any tips on locations, flies or tactics that would help?

many thanks,

Nick.

Nick,
I would keep it simple and start with flies that you are confident with. I would start with a team of buzzers and diawl bachs but wouldn't be afraid to switch to Boobies or Blobs if Buzzers aren't working.
Ask at the lodge for info on where to go, they will want you to catch and point you in the right direction.
Rutland is a lovely water and it can produce fantastic fishing

Chris

Most of the fish are being caught in the main basin. Try drifts from the middle of the basin to fantasy island, w and x buoys area (normanton bank) also worth a try. Blobs working best at the moment but buzzers/nymphs worth a go if the weather calms down. Best line for the blobs has been a di5. Both the arms are still fairly coloured.

Wind is stirring the bottom up. However the general colour of Rutland is much improved on previous weeks.

If the wind drops as forecast towards the end of this week and into the weekend I think we can expect to see much improved fishing on Rutland. They've continued with normal stocking for the last couple of weeks but nothing much has been coming out, so at some point Rutland is going to come a light I hope its this Friday or Saturday
