Default Airflo 40+

Hi,
I have been thinking of buying one of the Airflo 40+ extreme distance ridged floating lines,
Does anybody have any experience of, or advise on this line? Or perhaps they know of a better line?
These lines are on Ebay at £19.99 plus postage so seem like a good buy, but, how long will these" bargains" last, are they value for money, or just a trap for people like me?
Any information would be appreciated.
Keith

Hi Kieth, the Airflo 40+ is a very good distance line, I have the floating and the fast sinking versions and they have 2 years of hard use and are still like new. I do believe some of the earlier lines had some problems with excessive wear at the point where the shooting head joins the running line but I have had no such problems.
They are very easy to cast, the distance that can be achieved with almost no false casting is very good, and my floater is just that, after 2 years it stays afloat all day without any problems.
I do find they cast better and turn over a leader better if you use a poly leader.
Hope this helps.
All the best.
Mike

the new version is supposed to be pretty good(i havnt used one) but the older ones, which this may be had a tendancy to break where the head joins the running line.I once had a floater which landed badly and coiled.I prefer the 40+ expert;longer head and casts with a better loop

hope this helps Nick

DON'T get the 2010 model which I am guessing is what is on eBay, it breaks at the join and the taper is not as good as the 2011 model which is only 5 quid more and is a great bank fishing line - really does cast for miles with a couple of false casts.

Take a look at the test casting on Hywel Morgan's Youtube channel

I have one of the Extreme and one of the Expert in the 2011 model and I actually prefer the Extreme...............

So are these basically a shooting head, or will they cast a team of 3 nymphs with good turnover? I have heard the saying "never touch an Airflo floater"- has this changed now?

Yes,essentially a shooting head with thin diamiter running line(40+ extreme).Turnover is poor and heavy especially if the wind isnt behind you.The floater i had, had terrible memory problems but i havnt used one for 5 years so it would be unfair of me to comment on modern airflo floaters

hope this helps Nick

They are essentially a manufactured shooting head.

I would not choose this type of line for a team of nymphs really, but it is an excellent option for lure fishing at distance.

got an airflow polyfuse xt ridgeline floater, used it once. the memory was terrible!
switched to a 6th sense floater much better. no memory probs at all. looks like airflo finally made a decent line!!

Had 1 years ago never liked it and never bought a distance line again,i found them difficult to shorcast if needed and they really only had the 1 cast in them like previously mentioned good for a lure at distance and would be ok on a big wave, but i'll stick with a wf floater for my main nymph work and Dt floater for drys and more delicate presentation each to there own some love em some loathe em!

Hi,
Thanks very much to everyone, especially the very good advice to go with the 2011 option, I wasn't even aware there was one!
Anyway, I have went ahead and ordered one and will let everyone know how I find it, hopefully my experience with it will benefit someone else.
