Mark, if it is fishing as well as it did last year you will not be disappointed. I was down with a crowd of mates nearer the end of May and it was superb.

If you want to go after some of the quality fish try the area called Savages.

Bank or boat?

I was there Sunday, lots of people were practicing for the troutmasters. Story of the day was that the boats were regularly into fish frustratingly close to casting distance from the bank. All along the south shore and up the west end. I saw one fish caught from the bank all day which was from the boat dock. I had 2 or 3 knocks all day. They probably moved in shore in the evening but i didnt hang around to find out. Nymphs and buzzers probably your best bet.

So, fishing well from the boats. Bank is typically variable, Sunday wasn't helped by an easterly wind so you might fare better in a westerly.

Ask at the lodge for the most up-to date information, but the whole of the west end of the reservoir is fishing well. Savages and Sanctuary bay round to Hill Farm are all holding lots of fish. Try a midge tip or floater if conditions allow, with as long a leader as you can manage, with a heavy buzzer or gold head on the point and a couple of crunchers on the droppers. Don't fish too light, there are some real big lumps around at the moment. Just fish slow and hang on!
Hope this is of some help
Paul

I fished Sanctuary Monday at the Troutmasters, and picked up fish, sink tip line and diawl bach's, there were plenty of fish in Savages also, if you can stand waiting in line with the armada of boats who tend to park there.

Gaynes cove fished well in the morning, from the bank, but by afternoon i reckon the crowded bank fishers had chased the fish further out into deeper water.

I fished it again from the boat on Tuesday, picking up fish at Sanctuary, both me and the mate caught fish here, he had one at just under 5lb, i lost a good size one too, so yeah tackle up well there were some big fish around.

Have fun

Jim
