My boat partner became unwell after a couple of hours fishing today so decided to head back to the lodge and call it a day - these things happen.

Moored the boat and pulled out the gear, handed the life jackets in to the ranger (who was talking at that time to a potential customer). After two minutes he joined us in the car park to enquire why we were leaving the fishery so soon after taking a boat out.
Explained that my boat partner had become poorly and as quick as a flash invited us to have a free boat on our next trip. The ranger actually disappeared and returned with a handwritten compliment slip showing a free boat pass for our next trip.

Now I visit Hanningfield about once or twice a year but this gesture of goodwill will ensure that I increase the number of visits a year.

Glad to hear that Chris, the rangers are very good at Hanningfield - last week one of them carried half my gear to the boat and got me a thwart board.

It's strange that just allowing "any method" has got this venue a bad rap. Today, 90% of the anglers were Eastern Europeans spinning or bait fishing (I actually saw someone fishing a stick float amazingly) but they catch very little. What this does do, is give Northumbrian Water the funds to stock it well with great quality fish.

We had 29 fish to the boat today, in very windy conditions, and I kept coming off fish as I am practising for our Eliminator next weekend - that's how good it's fishing....................

Service like that makes a fishery,only last week at a well known Scottish fishery,as i was carrying the last of the gear to the boat,my boat partner was bailing out the boat as the boatman stood yapping! They should be taking a lesson from the English reservoirs.

one of my favorites on the surly unwelcoming thing was a day I was fishing with the much missed on this forum robin Haywood and the Irish hobbit was with us in a seperate row boat .
Surly one motoers out to the redhaired bad company and tells him of for no lifejacket,what would it have taken to bring one out , as it was Mick was compelled to row back to the lodge for another tounge lashing and row back out again .
Not been back again ,although i think it is one of the loveliest ressers in the country .

Aye, the Hanningfield boys are brilliant.


Big Rich is the best and keeps the Eastern Europeans in check as they often try and sneak booze out on the boats - the two do not mix well in my humble opinion.

Booze and boats are bad news.


Always a great venue.

yes, the boys at hanningfield do try to please, last time I went I blanked after fishing all around the wall, inlet and the mole, I was leaving and filled out my card, and they could see I was royally pi55ed off and I told them this is my 6th visit and I have only caught during 2 of those visits.....so they offered me a boat for free, but I politley declined - nice touch!........

what is catching at hanningfield now, is it time to forget about lures???......I still havent cracked buzzer fishing and I have managed to convince dad that we need to do a few eveinings till sun set on the inlet with 10 foot buzzer rigs with about 3 or 4 buzzers equally spaced under a bung.......wadyareckon???....

Excellent service that and thanks for sharing it; its easy to moan about various comlaints and poor services but to often nice things like youve experienced go unreported
