Default Slow glass vs intermediate

Just wondering what is the difference between a slow glass and a intermediate, what is the difference between the sink rates and which one is the best for buzzer/ wet fly/ nymph fishing?

Normally slow sink is 1.5-2 inch per sec and intermediated is 0.5 to 1 inch per sec.

For static fishing slowest is best (a floater is even better), if you are retrieving, it depends on the speed of the retrieve, (i.e. the faster you retrieve the faster sinker you need both to keep the fly down on the retrieve and the faster you get to the target depth)

The "glass" lines are an Airflo product and are actually called "slow glass intermediates", so all of those slow sinking lines, which is what they really are fall into the intermediate class. Some also used to be called neutral density.

Anyhoo, the slow glass sinks at 0.5" per second their fast glass is 1.5" per second and they do a mid glass which will be somewhere in between, don't have one so can't qoute sink rate.

Depending on what brand of inter you are looking at they range from 1.1"-1.8" to 2.0" per second.

"intermediate" is a generic term which means any type of sinker that is less than about 3 inches per second - they vary from 0.5 to about 2.5.

"slow glass" is an Airflo term which refers to a model of intermediate they sell with a sink rate of 0.5 inches per second.

Hi Jack, for buzzer/nymph fishing, depending on the depth of the fish you may require any of the 'Airflow' lines.
Floater - speaks for itself
Midge tip - floater with approx 3' of intermediate attached
Slow Glass - sink rate approx 1/2 '' sec, used to combat surface drift
Fast Glass - sink rate approx 2" sec, as above but deeper presentation
DI3 - sink rate 3" sec
DI5
DI7 - you get the idea.
With a decent cast, ie 25m, you can fish a buzzer 20' down using a midge tip from a drifting boat. From the bank, unless you are over very deep water or you have a great deal of surface water movement, a floater should suffice. Hope this is of some help.
