Default Boobies and Eggs

Apologies for asking a dumb question but im new to this

At my local fishery Tavistock Trout Fishery some anglers have been catching on boobies

These are fished slow fig of 8 with a sinking line on a very short leader

Questions
Are there other ways of fishing a boobie

How do you fish an egg fly

The boobie was originally designed to be a floating wake fly. Dont know about the egg fly never fished one.

if i fish the egg fly i normally do so under a bung. The boobie can be fished on a sinking line with a short leader or it can be fished as a point fly for washing line style.

I fish the booby on the top dropper with mini lures on the middle dropper and tail.

The booby was originally designed to be fished as described by aldo1 - as a means of getting a fly to fish slowly across the bed of the lake without getting snagged up on the bottom. Other ways of fishing it came about by experimenting. Probably the worst method is to fish it static, anchored hard on the bottom. This is a method virtually guaranteed to result in deep-hooked fish.

fish the booby with a floating line on the point with a couple of nymphs or buzzers on the droppers when the fish are high in the water-known as the washing line, fish static ,slowly or with occasional long pulls can be deadly. This method can also be used on intermediate or sinking lines and is good for prospecting different depths. After a long pull pause to allow the flies to rise slowly like the naturals. Also try a sinking line with booby on point and blobs on droppers-fast retieve with some stops can be deadly

all the best Nick

I occasionally use egg flies.Like any other fly they have their day and can certainly be deadly.
I give em a glug of sinkant and fish them back(no bung) very slowly.Keeping them moving i think offers more in the way of a decent take than fishing them static. They do seem to produce some lightening fast takes at times. Its interesting to fish a clear water venue and watch a fish mouth an egg without as much as an indication on the line.

Sorry BobP but it was made to be a floating fly to rip over the surface. Useing it for ledgering came later.

I don't want to start a pub brawl about this, but I am pretty sure that BobP is right about the booby first being developed as a fly for very deep fishing. It was initially publicised by Mickey Bewick and Gordon Fraser in about 1984-85 with subtly different applications - there's "booby nymphs" (GF) and "booby lures" (MB). Other uses such as the washing line, wake fly fishing, and (sadly) static ledgering by grumpy old men at Farmoor 2 reservoir, followed a few years later.
