Could anyone talk me through tying backing and fly line to a reel,...which knots,...any pre-prep needed?
Thanks for your patience.

never liked that knot myself, never really binds that tightly to the spool so when you're spooling the backing on under *tension it just keeps spinning around the spool. I always use the grinner knot, pass the backing around the spool twice then tie a 4 or 5 turn grinner knot.

GRINNER KNOT

Bites really hard to the spool so it stops the line spinning around.

*Always wind the backing on under tension otherwise when you're playing a good fish the tension put on the line can cause the backing on the upper layer to dig into the looser packed coils underneath potentially causing it to stick or jam there, losing you a big fish in the process.

Never gave me any problem, and by the 3rd tight coil there is no chance of it spinning.
Put a braided loop on the back of the flyline then tie off backing with a half blood.Or do a neat nail knot with the backing onto the flyline.
