Default dt or wf

ive had a problem with my cortland 444 coiling on the water, im only after stripping it down to the backing with the intention of giving it a wipe and hopefully taking out any twists and i noticed that the 2 ends are the same. Im only flyfishing a year and when i bought my reel i got the guy in the shop to put on my backing and new floating line that he recommended, a 6weight forward cortland444. But now that ive seen both ends of the fly line are the same im wondering if he put a double taper on.
im confused

Is the thickness roughly the same along the length of the line? If so, its probably a DT.

If it has a thicker head, tapering to thinner running line at the backing end, its probably a WF.

Both ends will look the same it depends where the head starts, if wf you should have a long thin level running line up to the head of the line with a front taper ahead of it,if dt you will have a really long head (most of the line) and and a thin taper at each end, hope you understand

Last 2 to 6 feet depending on line size is level tip on a DT and will be the same thickness as running line. Go 15ft in from each end and compare, if both the same DT, if one thick and one thin WF.

i checked it again. the part connected to the backing is thin, it continues thin like that then gets a little thicker then goes thin again at the front.

Very rough measurements from front end of line, where you put your leader.......................1 metre thin, 10 metres thicker, 15 to 20 metres thin. This makes it a WT forward...................birdsnest

That description applies to both WF and DT Cortland 444 floating lines...

The thin bit, connected to the running line, will be 63' long if a Cortland 444 WF F, an excellent line BTW.

Hi Pearse,

have you tried casting both ends? If you do and they cast the same you've got a DT, if they don't you're casting the running line of a WF.

Regards,
Johan
