Default Difference between leader and tippet

Hi all.

It is very hard to find on the Internet (or on Amazon say) a very beginners book on setting up your tackle initially.

Does anyone know if such a beast exists.

I have downloaded a few "beginners guides" to Fly Fishing to my Kindle - but it mentions leaders and tippets - to the very beginner - this means little.

I just know someone. somewhere will be able to help me.

Many thanks in advance.

No - I mean actually mean step by step instructions on how to set up.
i.e the Leader goes on the line like this etc etc

A tippet refers to the last couple of ft or so of your leader, this can be knotted on or via tippet rings and is a lower BS to the main leader

Wait for the experienced guys on here, they'll help you out.
I'm a newbie, and started on a single length of flouro, which is fine at first.
Thanks to reading on here and a lot of advice from Neil (chelsea123), I now fish a tapered leader which has a loop to attach to the loop of your fly line.
The tapered leader does what it says, start thicker at the line end and thin at the business end.
I then attach a length of flouro as a "fishing leader", and then the fly.
This means when you change flies you are shortening the flouro rather than the tapered leader.
Leader and tippet are the same animal.
Hope this helps,...I'm a newbie and will stand correcting if any of this is incorrect.
ATB, guys.

Hardly an "Idiots Guide", but I found the ORVIS Guide by Tom Rosenbauer very informative ,...I paid about £6/7,..on Amazon for a new copy.
Hope this is of help.

(sorry op not trying to hijack your thread) seems like a lot of faff on tying more knots on the bank side unless its mainly for dries for better presentation and turn over?

It's a lot easier, mate. You set the line/leader/tippet up on your reel/spool at home by the fire. Just need to tie the fly on at the water.
You can build up a store of leaders and tippets and keep them in a case for different situations.
The leader has a preformed loop like your fly line, takes 30 seconds to change one.
