Fly-fishing forget it i have been fishing it for 30 years and this is without doubt the worst year ever . very poor indeed . My advice would be hire a boat and get your trolling gear out , you just never know what you might hit , concentrate near burn mouths there will be a good head of salmon in the loch by then.

Yes i agree with you,i dont no what end you fish, but the bottom end has been poor the last 2 years, have mates who are thinking of takeing there boats of the loch.
depending on what end of the loch you were thinking of going to and what side

Oban and lorne angling club have fishing on hill lochs at the north west end ,and if you go to the south end
you are only eight miles or so from the Knapdale lochs run by Lochgilphead angling club.

hope this helps

Its a log cabin type park in dalavich. The plan was to stay there and hire a boat apparently the mariner for the boats is 5mins away.I was gonna hire a boat for maybe 3 days or so.
ive never fished a loch before or even fished from a boat so its something i was really looking forward to.But i dont want to spend all that time and money for nothing.
i would really appreciate any help you could give me.

Never fished a loch before but fished plenty of large ressies. My advice if you haven't thought of it yet would be to go out in a boat with someone who a) knows about boat fishing b) knows the place your fishing.Being stuck out in the middle off a large water in a gale with a engine that won't start aint no fun

Drive out the back road from Dalavich and go over to Kilmelford and get a permit from the shop/post office at the end of the road. Make sure you get the right one as there are two covering different lochs. You don't want the angling club one.

Drive back up the road and park at the cattle grid, or just beyond if the farmer hasn't got his feed station for the cattle there You will see a gate on the opposite side of the road with a path to Losgainn Beg. Fish down the loch, whichever side you like. Fish around and in the lily beds with strong tackle

Follow the track up the hill and you will see another loch to your left, Loch a'Mhinn, again choose which direction you want to fish in. If left leave the loch at the corner with the high bank and follow the wall, there is a path, to Loch na Curraigh. Fish down the path side and around the bottom. Don't try and go right as it is floating bog and you might not be found for a few thousand years If you go right around a'Mhinn when you get to the top end at the outlet burn, cross it and head up over the hill to na Curraigh.

At the end of the loch you can retrace your steps back to the car or head down the glen and, keeping high, traverse left round the hill and down to Loch a'Phearson. Fish left around it until opposite the island at the top and head up the small burn coming down the hill here and follow the indistinct path back to the car.

Two or three miles of walking but worth every step. You can see I like the place
