Hi Colinmac

We need a bit more information please. What type of fishing are you using the net for?

There are so many different types all are designed specially to suit different conditions.

I used to comp fish from both bank & boat. That was several years back. I'm going to get back into it again. I know most match men use either carbon or fiberglass, but we game anglers tend to use aluminum poles. I was just wondering what is the best pole material?

After treading on and smashing 2 carbon fibre handles, I'm sticking with something resembling a cast iron girder.

Hi Colin
I think match fishermen use carbon fibre and fibre glass net poles and there is tremendously wide range.

Game anglers tend to use aluminium net poles.I have five aluminium landing nets for river, bank, and boat fishing.Effectively, short, medium, long reach, and salmon. I do have an extending three section aluminium landing net that will do three jobs. It extends to 7'.6" and has a large capacty net.

I think landing nets are personal and like rods should be chosen to suite the person and the type of fishing they do most.

as black knight says it is a personal thing and depends on the type of fishing you are doing.Wading from the bank i use a metal handle that i can stick in the bed of the lake.On a boat i like something lighter

all the best Nick

If you are doing catch and release. a fine mesh net, of knotless weave is best, with a deep bag. For boat work, I tend to go with a net with a total length of about a meter to 1,2 meters, with a large frame. My river net is a Mclean, and it's great.

Thumbs up Re: landing nets, whats best?

I've purchased a rubberised mesh net & a telescopic pole. I've been fishing for to many years now & was looking to get back into comp fishing. I do have shortish nets & a scoop net. I normally C&R so i dont use a net. Again thanks for all the help.

Your rubberised net is perfect for c/r,and no stuck hooks, also washes easily,so no more smelly cars
