Default My second fly session

had my second day fly fishing yesterday, headed over to press manor fishery which is only a couple of miles from where i live.
my first session two weeks previous on barlow trout fishery didnt produce a single take so i wasnt expecting much but was looking forward to it regardless.

well i got to press at about 9:30 and got setup on a floating line with a green fluffy fly (no idea what its called) and on the second cast i got my first trout on! it was a right little scrapper which was a surprise for a fish of about 1.5lb but landed it and returned it to the water.
at that point i thought maybe the day was gonna be different to my first session!
i had 10 rainbows out through the day, the biggest being just over 2lb all coming to flies with either green, yellow or white patterns or combinations of those colours.
the surprise catch of the day was my 3rd fish of the day, when i hooked into it it didnt feel like a trout and as i reeled in i saw a flash of gold! hmmm gold trout? no it was a rudd! lol

anyway, was a superb day all round.
the baliff even took time out to teach my little girl (11 years old) how to cast a fly and she even caught a fish, and on that note, whats the smallest fish caught on a fly? she caught a tiny little stickleback, hooked in the mouth properly. i couldnt believe my eyes lol

what a great day

Good to hear. Sometimes, people just starting out have several visits before they start catching.
Really glad that your daughter had a good time too.

As for Rudd - don't knock them! You can have a lot of fun with them on light tackle.

hope the 3rd outing goes just as well.

Bill

Sounds like a good Day and you are off the mark and hooked for life.

I've had small Perch, Roach, Rudd and even Dace on the fly. It just happens that way some time.

Dell, did you lnow that there is a fly tying class up at Brimington, Red Lion monday nights. You might want to learn how to tie the 'green fluffy things' yourself.

I would agree with Blue Licer. As a relative newcomer to the sport started tying this year and what a great feeling catching on you own DIY's.

Hi,

Sounds like a brilliant day. Well done. It will change your life forever!!

Was the green fluffy thing a damsel by any chance?!!

Tight lines,

Nick.

Nice place Press Manor. Fished it a few times. Big black Hawthorns should be knocking about now on there. Bernie should have some very nice ones tied up for sale.
Caught a minnow on the fly, smallest so far. Rudd seem to like green coloured flies.
Glad you and your daughter had a good day.

I'd second the praise for Press Manor, I fished it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and loved it, well run, well stocked and lovely peaceful surroundings, they have a whiteboard up that they put on the flies and areas that are catching, which I've not seen elsewhere and I think is a great idea and a huge help if fishing it for the first time. Dell, it was probably damsel nymphs that you had success with as I caught a few on them, small black and red buzzers worked well too, there were plenty of fish raising but I couldn't tempt them with any dries, may try the hawthorns next time.
