They tend to be dawn/dusk insects but some do hatch during the day as well. They are certainly about now and providing large hatches, normally about 2-3 hours before dark, with the hatch tailing off by about 30 min before dark.
They hatch from now through to autumn but different species and sizes, so you need to carry a few different sizes to ensure you get close.
Even through the takes can be savage, give the fish time to turn down before tightening as quite a lot of fish drown them first before taking them under the water.
