Default Favourite river flies

I have only recently started river fishing but Im really enjoying it so far. I have tried to keep it simple with regard to fly selection, sticking with hares ears and ptns. They seem to be working ok but i was wondering what flies everyone else would recommend, especially for this time of year, thanks

Jimmy Fairgreaves Deer Hair Olive - Scottish Internationalist on the Rivers and this fly is in the book, by Stan Headley - Flies of Scotland?
The fly looks nothing spectacular, but in a spate river of North England, Wales and Scotland it's lethal.
Enjoy, Rivers are the real deal!

Charles Cotton's Black Fly
Grey Duster
Double Badger
Kite's Imperial (without a doubled thorax)
Some sort of Sedge
Pheasant Tail (dry fly)
Tup's Indispensable (variant)
Aphid
Sherry Spinner
Sturdy's Fancy

Later on you may need some more but these dry flies will see you through the first few weeks.

At the moment, in the River Carron system (spate river) you can use anything you like - as long as it is a Black Pennel !
