Default Titanium Fly Rods are they any Good?

When fishing Stocks Reservoir I noticed two titanium fly rods in their shop greatly reduced. I wasn't tempted but I wondered if what was supposed to be the material to take over from carbon fibre has fallen by the wayside?

Is there anyone out there that uses a titanium rod or has this type of rod lost popularity if it ever had any?

Used to be one about by Scierra or Vision with titanium coils I think, seriously stiff rods! Quite old now unless a new one has been brought out?

You're right Darren, Scierra made a series with titanium. I still own one, it's gathering dust in my "hobby"room...when I still was trying to outcast other anglers I used this 10' #7 beast (which easily casts an 8 and even a 9) to do the job until it saddled me up with a tendinitis that took 6 months to cure (I'm not even sure it's totally cured now). Now that might not be the rod but me, but it has so much power I broke two tips at the ferrule during casts. Scierra each time changed them with reinforced ones, apparently the first tips were built too weak for the action. Since then I learnt it's not force that makes you (or the rod) cast far. I can still cast a decent distance if I want to but with all types of rods and I tend to stay clear from the stiff or "fast" ones (at least in one hand rods). Hence the dust on it

Regards,
Johan

Another amusing illustration of a non fishing expert marketing operation trying to sell a bizarre Chinese idea !

By Gum there's lots of them out there at the moment .

Will flyfishermen ever learn or understand the selling process - apparently not !

Have fun

I think my money would be spent on a Helios at the moment, if buying in the high price range.
