Default Sinking line or sinking leader

Hi, I fish a local large lake and I am using a floating line with a tapered leader and poly tippet. Been catching fish fine up until the warmer weather started a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering if it was worth going to a inter or sinking line or a fast sinking leader as I think the fish are now staying deeper in the water. I bank fish at present and may use a boat later on. Thanks.

Not quite sure what you mean by a 'poly tippet'?

If you're bank fishing, a long leader, a weighted point fly and a slow retrieve might be the answer.

However, if you're venturing into a boat ... well that's an entirely different equation .. how deep do you want to fish, how far can you cast, will you be anchored, drifting? How will you control the boat? Have you thought about what density of line you'll need?

As fishing becomes more challenging as the season progresses try using flies in smaller sizes, 12's and 14's, longer leaders and allow your flies to sink before retrieving.

Try different sinking times until you start to snag the bottom.

I fished in a competition on the 29th April and anglers were fishing floating lines, intermediates, and Di3 and Di5 sinkers. All had fish. These are all successful methods used in the right circumstances.

I would tend to agree with previous posts. Carry on with a long leader at least 16' , your floating line, small flies or nymphs, and a slow retrieve.

above advice is good- you could also try an intermediate polyleader.Keeping the flies deeper with a floating line becomes harder with a strong wind-even if you can get your flies down they may move around faster than you want them to especially with a side wind

all the best Nick
