Default Sea Trout fishing on the Tweed

I am thinking of doing some sea trout fishing on the Tweed in July, I would appreaciate any help as to what part of the river to head for.I was told round Coldstream is a good part of the river to fish, but as I'v never fished the Tweed before I need some help. I was also informed that they fish before the darkening the last 2 hours of daylight not throughout the night, and that last year they had good returns of sea trout. Any help appreaciated.

Hi Scotsmac.
I had a chat with Steve Heardman, the Ghillie on Boathouse, last week about the sea trout. He said it begins in early June when very large fish run the river. He advised small flies and fish right through the night from his beat down to the sea. He was a true gent with a vast amount of knowledge.
Tight lines.

I've been making the exact same enquiries only this morning.

I was told they don't bother much fishing at night down there. Apparently enough sea trout are caught during the day to make it a worthy night time event.

Many thanks. From what iv heard the sea trout fishing has been very good recently especially since they have stopped mass fishing the sand eels. I also heard most of the fishing is done in the last couple hours of daylight. Hopefully I will find a good region to fish thats not to expencive.

Let me know how you get on.

A good friend has just moved down to the Borders, he and myself are also interested in fishing at night and he's currently making local enquiries, anything he comes up with I'll let you know.

As I said previous, I was speaking to him yesterday, and he also mentioned something about studies being carried out on the sea/brown trout populations on Tweed. He did mention that he had heard there is talk of a higher percentage (than usual) of trout going to sea???

I would personally head for the Till, which is a fantastic sea-trout river - certainly as good as I have come across.

Try Upper Tindall or Redscar beats, you won't go far wrong.

TT.

Tweed fishes well for daytime sea trout. Somehow Tweed sea trout don't respond as well at night to the fly, compared to other rivers. They are generally bigger too. We've had quite a few big sea trout off Upper Tweed from June/July, a tinge of colour or a few extra inches on level really make all the difference for these fish during the daytime.
