Default Sutherland fishing

Anyone who has been out in the wilds of Sutherland roaming from loch to loch, I just wondered which mapping you used? Do you find the 1:50k Landranger mapping sufficient or did you need the 1:25k OS Explorer maps?

Cheers,
John

John,

I spend a great deal of my time out on the remote lochs including Sutherland. I've only ever used the 1:50000 series and never had any trouble finding my way about.

I prefer 1:25000 but if you are flitting about all over the place then 1:50000 is cheaper. I usually photo copy and laminate the bit I want rather than taking the whole map. Opening up an OS Explorer map in a rainy gale never ends well!

Until I bought Anquet mapping software it was always the 50:000 series although I do have a few 25:000 too for some areas but I never used them in the field only at home. Now I just print out the area I am going to from Anquet mainly at 50:000 as that is the mapping I have but you can set it to print at 25:000 which gives a zoomed in map of the area as long as it isn't too big. Laminated they are easier to carry and read while out and about.
