Default another fly in a tree.

went out this afternoon managed to catch and release a 3lb R/T.
then stuck fly in a tree with next cast.
only the other day was watching a Hywel Morgan DVD.
in which he shows how to extract fly from tree/bush.
IT WORKS.

3 AT A TIME .
If you keep that up you could soon save enough to buy Hywels video.
If Hywels not looking I could rent it you.

here you go then.
fly stuck in tree.(silver birch)
wind line in as you walk up to tree point and lift rod up towards fly and wind all slack line onto reel .
Keep some tension on line and then waggle rod tip up and down/ side to side
when i tried it i was using a 9` 5wt rod and couldnt get rod tip any nearer than
2` away from fly.

I did as above and after a GENTLE waggle a 1/4" twig snapped off and dropped to earth along with my fly still embedded in it.
IT WORKED FOR HYWEL AND WORKED FOR ME BUT BE CAREFULL WITH THAT EXPENSIVE ROD.
DONT KNOW IF THE ABOVE WILL WORK WITH 3 FLYS THOUGH.

cigar tube with bent wire lashed to it, attached to a string. pop it on the end of the rod. hook over branch. pull branch down. unhook flies. (paraphrased from the fishermans vade mecum)

Sounds like an expensive fly retieve to me, I have seen too many rod tips snap to risk that thanks.

I made a fly retreiver ( that's probably not how it's spelt in English, close enough though.)

I cut down one of those carbon whips, pushed in and glued a large barreled disgorger in the end, placed a bolt in the other end. Screws into my long handled landing net. Slide up line, piff, paff, puff. Remove fly from tree.

Just point the rod at the fly, wind up the slack and then apply tension using the reel straight down the fly line, look the other way, normally stepping back seals the deal
