Cool Early early mayfly!!!!!!!!

NEVER SEEN OR REMEMBER THE "MAYFLY" RISING SO EARLY ON THE RIVERS AND LAKES OF IRELAND...

EVEN THE PRETTY "YELLOW SALLY" WAS SEEN DOING ITS STUFF ON MY LOCAL RIVER YESTERDAY EVENING... AND ALREADY HATCHES OF THE DARK SEDGE ARE FLUTTERING ABOUT ON THE RIVER BOYNE...

HAS THE COLD ARTIC WINTER TURNED THE FLY HATCHES ON ITS HEAD OR IS IT "MOTHER NATURE " FIGHTING BACK AGAINST THE ELEMENTS........

Its summer, spring will follow soon enough.

Very little fly life on the Liffey for the last week or two. A smattering of iron blues and some midge.

Definitely early for mayfly. Last year I fished an amazing day with the air filled with mayfly but that was the 30th May. This year our office windows next to the canal in Reading have mayflies clinging to them already. It may not be the main hatch but it is a good 3 weeks earlier than last.

There is a small brook close to home which contains no fish to speak of but always sees the first Mayfly hatch of any water in the locality.
I would expect to see them dancing in the air in a fortnight or so, but have never seen Mayflies in April.

Massive hatch of really large mayfly on the river at mid day, trout coming up and taking the "greens" as they sail down in the current,

Same here in cumbria.
I was on one of the tarns at the weekend and there was a load of olives hatching ... i didnt see any before june last year.
Also loads of midges and tons of crane flies ... interestingly, even with all this early flylife, the lake is fishing terribly.
The fish are usually free risers on there, but hardly a fish has been rising and very few are being caught.

the trout are feeding well on the rivers here spider, , the lakes are a bit differant, lots of trout coming to the dry buzzer, ,some really large fish up to 7lb on sheelin in recent days,
the spent gnat fishing will certainly bring up the monster trout on sheelin in a fortnight everything going right,

Reports of some fine fish being caught on Derg with big fall of gnat lastnight ,settled weather to continue with a mainly easterly accent , would say you better book a boat early with another long weekend coming up , which river are you fishing hobble? hopping to fish the hatch on the Suir this year .
