Default Can you take a travel rod on a plane?

Hi Fellahs, I'm flying out to Belfast From Manchester soon on business & fancied fitting in half a days fishing.
I wondered if I could take my travel rod (Orvis Frequent Flyer) in hand luggage, without running the risk of some sticky fingered customs chappy claiming it was the next shoe/underpant bomb & taking it off me?
I've looked under the airport non permitted bleeding obvious categories,(Knives, Baseball bats, Atom Bombs etc)... no mention of travel rods?
PS caught a 4lb Brownie on Good Friday at a beautiful spot that I found by accident... Conniston Hall near, Settle, wow what a find & got it on a homemade Olive Cats, Happy, happy boy

You should have no bother with your rod,But there is always 1 jobsworth about. They don't like flylines or size 18 hooks.
Beware of them.

I would have thought you would be ok with it in your hand luggage but I would ring the airline company to double check, Iv been made to take line off a reel in my rucksack, obviously I was going to take the whole crew out with 150 yards of braid

I would suggest that you contact the airline concerned via e-mail and if they are agreeable print off their return e-mail and take this with you when you book in.
You then have something to show any jobsworth Customs employee if they decide that there is an element of ambiguity regarding any items you wish to carry on board the aircraft.

Just found this, it would have to go in your hold luggage, the worlds gone mad

No chance matey, they will insist you put them into checked luggage.

There is no " sticky fingered customs chappy " involved in a Manchester/Belfast flight. Both places are in the UK and there are no Customs controls between the two places for UK passengers whose flights originate and terminate in the UK. You will have the airline security/Airport Operator/police and Special Branch to contend with, so I guess that is enough.

Yep, I suspect a travel rod in hand luggage would be disallowed. Ok in hold luggage though.

No, never, not a chance. In the hold only.

Highly unlikely!

Rods in the hold, period, in the UK.

You can near enough take your gaff with you onboard in the States but not a bloody 7' #2 weight 4 piece here in the UK.

Lordy, think of the carnage you could commit with such a lethal weapon
