The fly that Bob's using is a fairly new PNW tie called a "Prom Dress." Actually named that by a lady on a guided trip with the fellow who 'invented' same.

Bob's, and his rods, are held in very high regard by our PNW Boo-Boys. Not inexpensive, but a real work of art as a fishing tool. http://www.riverwatchrods.com/

Hey Pete,

That's a big thank-you from me! I really did enjoy that video; and meeting the Clay family, although it was only on film. Shame they weren't all using a cane fly rod! But a fantastic video all the same!

Great stuff

That was absolutely brilliant, thanks for that. Would have loved to of have swapped places with him when that fish tore off across the surface. Amazing river and fish.

CK, with Winter Run Steelhead that's more the norm than the exception. Majority of those fish appear to be in the 12-(maybe) 18 pound range and they can strip line off your reel like a freight train run a muck.

All be it several years back hooked 'the big one' with not much more than 60-70 foot of Carron Line and leader off my reel. Within 10-15 seconds the balance of that 150 foot of line and another 50 -75 yards of 30# backing were gone. Had to stick my (thank God for a heavy coat) arm between the rod and out going line and see if I could turn him.

I'd like to say I landed that Puppy ... but no. But at least I didn't get 'spooled.')
