Default durham river

just a question for anybody local to durham.
i like to pop down and fish the free stretch of durham river.
what can i expect to catch this time of year.
i fished it later on last year and caught a few small brownies.
will it be anygood this early i know the sea trout make there way up later on.

Seatrout smolts making their way down to the sea.

Decent browns are there but are difficult to tempt. Wait until later next month, once the water has warmed up. Try a small dry fly at the tail-end of the pool (opp the ice-rink) early evening. If you wade across from the car park side you can cover the water quite easily, and the wading is easy.

Good bit of water once you know it.
