Default spending a fortune on fishing..........

Is it just me or is there always someting better??
ive been fishing just over a year and will have spent 3/4 grand on my fishing tackle............i have 3 nets 5 rods, simms jackets for cold/ hot days/windy days, im feeling i have a problem. loads of now redundant tackle, its taken me this long to find things i like. i know the saying buy cheap buy twice but i cant seem to stop with it.
i must have 30 boobies but never used one yet,
i use the same rod now my beloved 10ft 8wt g tec, rest stuck in garage.
is this the norm? or am i like a woman in a shoe shop???

Woman in a shoe shop but there's nowt wrong with that...if you have the disposable income. Some things warrant the expense but I believe many don't and it's so easy to be suckered with the hype. Easy for me as I have a tight budget and only get what I really need now and even then have a good old ponder. Of course, if I had the wealth I'd spend indiscriminately. Doubt it would improve my fishing though.

I admire your restraint.

That's nothing. You're only a real tackle tart when you're remortgaging to get the latest Sage range, the family are eating from Lidl and there are guys from the credit card companies at your door with hammers.

You can't flyfish if you're a joiner old chap.........

Seriously - it doesn't have to cost a lot to fly-fish. I've honed my gear down over the years to the perfect (for me) set-ups. Many on here will tell you the same or similar.
I use cane and silk for streams and when the rivers are low. This outfit is beautifully balanced, and effortless to cast accurately.
Cost about £140.00 in total (line, reel and rod).

Orvis eight and a half footer for when the rivers are running normally, cost (with an Orvis Battenkill reel) around £150.00 in total (that included a line which has since been replaced). I've been using the same rod and reel for the last 20 years so they owe me nothing. The PP lines (available from PP on the forum) BTW are excellent.

I have a nice cane eight and a half footer for summer/autumn use (£60.00 off ebay).

Spend as much or as little as you want. Personally, I like old tackle, and the Youngs range of reels are nice to use, dependable, and still very affordable. Some like to spend mucho money on new tackle, or old collectable tackle, which is their choice and fine by me.

One of the best anglers I've fished with (John Wadham) used, when I fished with him, either old tackle, or cut-down rods adapted for whatever he was fishing for. His tackle may not have been show-room quality, but his technique and river-craft (to be accurate, canal-craft when we fished together) was way the best I've seen.

Don't believe the ads BTW - go by personal recommendation. This forum is a great source of impartial information regarding tackle.

Tackle tart or very unfortunate that you feel you have to do that? My set up cost about £100, I only have one as I only fish stillwaters and it does me just fine. Yeah, I'd love a sage rod but there's no need for it.

It's a bit of sarcasm Charlie.
