hello is it a new rod? my way is not to pull apart straight but a slight twist and pull, carbon rods are so thin!!. to small pieces of rubber help to grip, like an old bike inner tube. i have broken a telescopic rod before by tight ferrels so be carefull and happy fishing

Rubbing grease/sweat, from the forehead or back of the neck, onto the joint before assembling helps to separate the joint more easily.

If the joint's stuck the best way I've found to separate it, having tried them all, is to take it home and freeze the joint by wrapping a bag of frozen peas, or something similar, around the joint. Leave for half a hour or so until frozen. Then, using rubber gloves to get a good non-slip grip (the wife's Marigolds are perfect), pull and twist the joint.

If it doesn't work first time make sure you get the joint cold enough before you try again.

Default easy fix

Pour some cold water over the joints. It's just the joints sweeling up with usage.

Yep that works for me, quick rub on the back of the head. been doing that for years, never had a problem with sticky joints. Back of the head? Yeah, it's the only place with hair still on it!

Chris.

Whatever you do, don't twist a rod for the simple reason that modern rod walls are so thin and you're cruising for a fracture. Two pieces of rubber are a good idea though.

'Grease' from the side of the nose, forehead etc was good advice when joints were metal ferrules but not so good on carbon to carbon.

Again don't twist!

Bag of frozen peas always works for me but you have to wait until you get home!

Alternatively, you can find a willing 'friend', cross hands and straight pull or indeed put the rod in the bend behind your knees and use the strength of your legs to pull apart .... however with both of these there's the opportunity to crush rings either side of the joint.

My vote goes to the frozen peas method.

I rub the male side with a candle or beeswax which seems to help.

If you put the rod up on a cold morning re-do the joints as the day heats up but don't push them in too far.

If it is put up when hot re-do the joints as it gets cooler.

Dry the joints if they get wet in the rain before assembling them.

As the day progresses loosen and redo the joints to make sure they haven't stuck, better to be safe than sorry
