Are you sure it's the reel at fault?
Are you applying some frictional tension between fingers when winding the line in?
Are you laying the line properly on the spool when finished for the day?

I can't say I've ever had nesting issues with my reels (Greys GX500, GRXi) or even my older reels.

Hi Andy,
I can't quite see how the reel itself can cause this problem. You mention a bird's nest, so I take it you are familiar with the multipliers used by bait fishermen and spinners. If so, try using the forefinger of your rod hand to guide the lay of the line on to the reel, like the level wind on a multiplier. If necessary use the finger and thumb to very lightly grip the line and provide tension to wind against. Could save you the cost of a new reel.

I agree with Gary -as long as the handle is turning the spool directly i cant see any other problem with the reel-just guide the line on with the non winding hand with minimal preassure

hope this helps Nick

Sunkistbob on the forum was selling some very nice reels at a decent price. Not sure if he has any left but drop him a pm and see.

Ah,So in reality there is nothing wrong with the reel.you just don't like it.
Try E-bay,there are plenty of S/H geared reels for sale for not a lot of money.
