Just had a look thru previous posts for any views on yeavely but found nothing recent. has anyone fished it recently, or have any knowledge? Am treating a friend to a 50th birthday present and would like to be sure it will be a rewarding day?
thanks

Not recently, but took someone there for an introduction to fly-fishing last year. Guy Field and his wife who run the place are very friendly and helpful, and the small lake was well-stocked with fish of various sizes. The water is usually clear, and you can sight fish to specific fish. Casting is very easy from all round the lake. Have a look in the returns book in the hut before starting fishing, and I reckon you should find it just the job. As I recall we used floating lines,long-ish leaders and small nymphs. We also had the place to ourselves - there is a limit on the number of rods anyway. Ring Guy for a chat & I am sure you will get an honest picture of how it is fishing.

I went up last September to check it out. The water was gin clear. However there were few entries in the 'catch' book, which was strange. I saw Guy and asked him how it was fishing. He explained that he had treated the water to control the weed. Unfortunately this had killed some of the fish. Therefore it was effectively closed. He kindly said I could give it a go and just pay for any fish caught, but i was only looking. I did see a fish rise though.

I love Yeaveley, it is great for dry fly. A traditional Whickams Fancy is the best fly for me.

As someone else has said give Guy a ring. Please give me an update as I am keen to know if it is back on form

Default Re: anyone fished yeavely recently?

Visited on Friday. Evidently it hadn't been fishing as well as usual - weather conditions to blame, as everywhere else. Anyway the wind dropped just after lunch and was replaced by blazing sunshine - not the overcast showery day predicted by metcheck
Managed 2 on the bloodworm and missed about 8 on drys (daddies, klink, sedge, hawthorn) - the little devils were just teasing me. So a bit frustrating but that's fishing.....
All in all, a really pleasant day. Weed free, tho Guy did say there had been a prob. at the end of last season. Lovely little water, well worth a visit - wish i'd tried those tiny midges hidden at the bottom of my bag tho.
Worth the trip
Grey
