Sorry Jeepster, but if it's fly tackle shops you're looking for Birmingham is a bit barren. The two game fishing specialist shops we had ( Simmonds and Priddey in Shirley and William Powell in the city centre ), both closed a few years ago. Fosters does sell fly fishing tackle, but is predominately coarse gear. The nearest fly specialists I can think of is Bailey's of Warwick, about 20 miles down the M40. If Mrs Jeepster is a dedicated disciple of retail therapy you should have time to pop down there and have a look around.

Cheers, Castaline.

I'm a fisherman of some years, but only a recent convert to fly-fishering.

Fosters has served me well in the past and they are also happy to get stuff so you can try out rods and reels in the flesh.

If you see summat on-line give them a bell and they'll often be able to order it; then you can really see if the bit o' kit in mind actually feels or acts like you want it to. Also they usually match on-line prices.

All in all, I think they're a good shop.

And now that I've mentioned Powell's, does anyone else on here remember thier premises in Carrs Lane? A traditional style wooden fronted shop window with racks of guns and rods displayed to maximum effect. Many's the hour I spent as a lad with my nose pressed against the glass, coveting the BSA Airsporter. Priced at £25, if I remember correctly, to own one was certainly beyond the means of a paperboy earning one Guinea a week. I had to settle for a second hand Relum Tornado bought from a schoolmate for ten quid.

Ah, the memories of youth...

Cheers, Castaline.
