Default You can fly fish in fog Right?

Please someone put my mind at rest. From the point of view of the fish? no change right? Might sound a daft question but as a newbie I just need piece of mind

Sorry to say but trout at least can be difficult to tempt in fog.

hello yes you can fish in fog but depends where and your safety. i presume you mean in the uk and winter. fishing farmoor near oxford, a massive concrete bowl and wall around as long you cast off the wall and not in the waters edge it was safe to do, just casting blind out to water a w/f would bring a fish or 2. not ideal to fish on a lake you do not know, or boat, as you would understand. go with a fishing friend or stay at home by the warm fire and read a fishy book. this is the only place i have fished as you describe, and then end of season on farmoor 1.

Thanks lads, Yes I know water well and it holds no additional threats. I can find it difficult to catch trout at the best of times but a bit of fog is not going to keep me from trying! Tight lines.

I fished in a boat on Linlithgow Loch with a thick mist that didn't lift until early afternoon. I was a bit strange but my fishing wasn't too seriously affected. I couldn't see more than fifteen foot.

For me, this question is a first (and I do mean a first that I've seen posited anywhere, any Fora).

To expand on the question, as the answer appears to be a qualified 'yes,' any reason why other than a change in air pressure of some-sort?

Hi Fred

All sorts of climate changes affect fishing as you well know. However, I'm not convinced that thick mist /fog makes a difference it's other external factors.I used to get up early and fish at dawn before the mist had lifted off a river or lake. I found this to be a magic time for catching fish.

Had to be at least 25 years back but Winter Steelhead fishing (with one of the first -only? - 2-handers) on the Russian River in Northern California. Very cold morning with water temp many degrees over air temp. Steam, fog, what-ever coming up off the river. Total Magic to be there.

Fellow walks up behind me on the beach and 'Yahoo's me.' Turns out he's a professional photographer and asks if he could use the photo he'd just taken off a bridge a hundred yards (give or take) up stream of me.

Why not, so I signed a 'release.'

Saw the picture a few months later on a 'Post Card' of all things ... it was a classic, almost sur-real (no idea how to spell that word ) in content/context. Bye the bye, if you didn't know it was 'you' you'd never know.

But a magic photo none the less.

Fred
