Default wader help -nylon v pvc and storage

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of questions about waders.

Firstly, I bought a pair of 15quid waders from lidl, worked ok for a bit but quickly started leaking, maybe no surprise given the price, however i wondered if it was me leaving them outside that was the problem. Living in a one bed flat with no storage, i left them hanging on the fence outside - would this weather exposure have caused them to deteriorate quicker? When i get a next pair should I try and find a way to leave them inside or is leaving them outside ok.

Second question - i'm on a budget, 50quid max but hopefully less. Is there much benefit for going for a pair of nylon waders rather than pvc, it seems they are slightly more expesnive but slightly more durable? worth the extra?

THanks very much,

iain

I think you have pretty much answered your own question, any plastic or rubber left outside and subject to sun (UV) and cold (below freezing) will cause all to perish, especially pvc.

I use the nylon hip waders by Ron Thompson which are on their 3rd season so far without leaking, but also have an older pair of nylon waist waders (10 years old) which are still fine.

Best way to store them is upside down by the boots on the back of a door if you have no cupboard space.

leaving them outside is no good! I bought a cheap pair of nylon waders off Ebay for about £25. They were absolutely lethal to wade in until I followed advice on this forum and screwed in 5 self tapping screws in each heel. Now they're brilliant. I do tend to leave them in the boot of the car which is probably not ideal!

cheers, i figured that leaving them outside was the problem. I'm thinking of getting the snowbee nylon waders and I guess when i get a new pair i'll have to clean them off after each use and bring them inside..
only trouble is the missus is moving in this weekend and she's already moaning about the half a dozen surfboards i've got crammed everywhere so an extra large pair of wellies might push her over the edge

I've had a pair of PVC waders for the last 15 years and have only ever had a leak once through a barb wire hole which was easily fixed with a patch and some aquasure. I have never left mine outside however.
