Default High Arnside Tarn, Cumbria

Hi all

I will be visiting the Lake district next week for my annual fix of fly fishing the various tarns and fisheries around the windemere/Ambleside area and cant wait to get back up there

I have been doing some research and have found this High Arnside Tarn. I see it is very small in size and holds wild brownies. I was just wondering if anyone has any info on this water that may be of use to me. If anyone has fished it recently or from the area that knows anything about it i would greatly appreciate any information

Many thanks

Hey.

Havent fished this tarn, but many others, and would imaging similar flies. Small black dries fished with a breeze is normally the best approach. I think Arnside is a bit on the weedy side so you'll be sure to find plenty of buzzer and damsels in the water, so a bit more variety. Also be sure to take some small beetle imitations. There are often great hatches of them and can offer some great top water action

I'm heading up that way in july for my yearly fix and might just give this little tarn a go. Let us know how you get on and dont forget you camera..!

Hi Dayne

Well i did get up there for a couple of hours in the morning. What a beautiful and peacful little tarn

As you said very weedy and nothing less than a floater needed. I had my 8' #4 setup which was a little light tbh as the fish were rising quite far out beyond the weed beds. Maybe a 9' #5 next time

However i did manage a couple of lovely trout both of which were returned along with the odd missed and lost fish

Had no luck on the dries so set up with some spiders just under the surface

Here are a few photos of the morning:

Highly recommended for a few hours and will certainly be back for more
