Default Brown Trout in the Arrochar area.

Hi folks, hope its ok to post this in here, apologies if it's not

I am going up to the Arrochar area (Argyll & Bute) in May and am looking for some small rivers or lochs to fish for brown trout. Can any one with any local knowledge point me in the right direction of where to fish?

I have heard of a few places that might be worth a visit....
The River Fruin just west of Loch Lomond is good for salmon seemingly but are there any brownies?
The River Croe at Ardgartan
River Kinglass
River Orchy (I know this is a bit further out)
Loch Restil

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Silky

The River Fruin just west of Loch Lomond is good for salmon seemingly but are there any brownies? I think that is part of the Loch Lomond permit and is hard to get on.
The River Croe at Ardgartan Spate Salmon river
River Kinglass I'm sure this is preserved and again a salmon river, there may well be trout though.
River Orchy (I know this is a bit further out) A salmon river again but there may be trout permits available when there are no salmon rods.
Loch Restil gets a lot of attention as it is near the road. Small brown trout.

If you don't mind the drive go to the Ba area and fish the lochs away from the roadside, they generally are busy, the farther you walk the quieter it gets.

Drive down past Inverary and fish the lochs at Auchindrain or go on down to Lochgilphead and get a permit for the club waters.

The River Fillan and the lochs around there. Permit from the Cafe in Crianlarich.

I think the Fruin, Falloch and Luss are all now classed as nursery/sanctuary streams and no fishing allowed on them at all.
I would check before you go.

Where did you get this info ? youi are the second member to state that the loch is full of rainbows. Was on a club outing at the loch last Saturday, not one rainbow appeared in the catches and none the previous weeks either. Do you fish the loch?

It is getting near the Easter weekend, there will be an 'escape'. Isn't there always?

Default lochgilphead

If you go into the ironmongers, Mr Mckillop will sort you out with a permit & all the information you require. If you can lay your hands on a copy of Bruce Sandison lochs & rivers of Scotland, that will let you know all you need to know about the fishing in the area, you are visiting.

I fish the Orchy for salmon and pretty sure there are no trout permits and heavily patrolled. In that neck of the woods I would be tempted to head north to loch Ba for some proper wilderness fishing.

If you decide to take Fishtails advice and go to Lochgilphead,if you go into FYNE TACKLE,Archie will sort you out with permits ,and you will have 12 or so Lochs to choose from.it is about one hour from ARROCHAR

good luck
