Default Sunny weather - bad for fishing?

Debating whetther to take a much earned half day or day off to get out fishing (river ) here in Ireland.

Blue skies, bright sun etc.

Have read the theory about trout not taking dries due to lack of eyelids and glare of sun ...do most of you find fishing in the sun a waste of time?

Could do with getting out - too many weekends wasted on work, relatives communions etc etc !!!

Have only fished twice since the season opened in March - arrrgh!!!

So any opinions on sunshine fishing?

Tks

Its nice to get away from it all even if your not catching, go for it and have a relaxing afternoon. Fishing days are too few and far between anyway to let an opportunity slip away due to the weather.

I was on the Blackwater Sunday evening after Salmon and as the Sun got lower the Trout and Dace started rising so there are fish to be caught out there.
Fish in woods if you can when the Sun is high and go out into the open when the Sun is a bit lower and you should get some sort of action.

i would just go for it mate. you know what they say 'a bad day's fishing is better than a great day in the office'.

Was thinking the same Stylie.

Thanks all.

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon.....

Not on the river but I was at a local fishery on Sunday and the conditions were horrific, not a cloud in the sky blazing sunshine and really high temps. I nearly didnt go as I thought it was going to be a realy hard day, guess what.. it fished its socks off.

I guess theres allway an exception to the rule.

I'd say, get yourself out, you will never know.

In most cases I'd regard a bright and windless sunny day as bad but on the rare occasions that I'm fishing a small stillwater those are precisely the conditions I hope for as it allows me to see deep into the water to seek out the browns and the bigger rainbows and then to see them take my fly.

As a rule of thumb it's likely to be true that sunny weather=poorer fishing, but there are always going to be exceptions.
Yesterday wasn't though, unfortunately, when I spent the whole day wandering through hill lochs under a clear blue sky without even seeing a fish. Still had a great day out all the same.

As an extension to this question, given the time of year ( no sedges ? ) , what type of fly life would be around in the evening ?
