Default Discarded Cigarette Butts poison fish

I don't think I've been to a water covered in cigarette butts, but interesting reading.

Cigarette butt poison is killing fish, say researchers | Metro.co.uk

Nicotine is toxic to fish. Don't put fag ends in your fish tank. Here ends the latest Proceedings of the International Society for the Study of the Bleeding Obvious.

Littering is bad, and I suspect a fish which eats a cigarette butt might be in trouble, but the effect on water quality in anything bigger than an aquarium is going to be an irrelevance.

There is a story, possibly apocryphal, of squirrels addicted to nicotine from eating cigarette butts.

I believe there is some merit to this finding. Cigarette butts are very toxic. Many years ago, two toddlers in Toronto Ontario, died after having consumed a few of them.
