Thanks for all the info, the 2 days couldn't have been more different, fishing wise anyway.
Thursday at Ravensthorpe was very difficult, although a large hatch of big buzzers lasted most of the day, the fish just wern't playing ball. A few were rising early doors about 40 yards from the bank but as the sun got higher, the went deep. Fishing from the dam wall produced 2 to my mates deep fished lures but I couldn't buy a touch all day despite trying what seemed like every buzzer, nymph, lure I had in my box.
Friday brought exactly the same weather conditions and having been advised but the guy in Thornton lodge to try the wood bank, we arrived at the waters edge to be greeted by feeding fish. Again they stopped showing as much when the sun got higher but the fish were still in the area and we both caught quite steadily through the day, my mate taking 12 and myself 15, mainly to damsel patterns although towards the evening when the fish came back to the surface I managed 4 off the top to a Black hopper.
The water at Thornton is apparantly very low for the time of year and the bank we were fishing allowed us to wade out around 20 yards and fish our flies into maybe 8 feet of water. The water is also very clear.
We were both very impressed with Thornton (our first visit) and will be returning to both fisheries later in the year.
