Cool Reel Cassette.

Have an airflo cassette typr reel.Have noticed when changing cassettes that more than light force is required,Is this normal or is there come type of lubrication I can use on the inside of the cassette without the danger of contaminating the line.

I have both a Hardy Demon and Wychwood cassette reel.....

Whilst the demon no doubt has the best cassette release and change system I have noticed that on both reels if the backing is wound too tight onto the cassette then it can cause the cassette to contract a bit. which in turn means they will/can get stuck on the reel or become very hard to remove.

I managed to get a spool completely stuck on the demon and eventually the penny dropped and I took all the line and backing off, put it on with far less tension and the cassette come on and off fine, the same applies to my wychwood reel, the best way to get the cassettes off this is hold the reel with both hands and push the cassette off using your thumbs. I have use Snowbee line slick and applied this to the "o" ring on the reel and this seems to help.

Hi,

Don't know if this is right but I have a Greys GRXi reel and find the spools a bit sticky too when changing lines. I smeared a small amount of Vaseline on the inside of the spools and this made changing them much easier. Obviously only use a tiny bit and avoid getting any on the lines especially intermediates or sinkers as it will affect their sinking properties. Hope this helps.

Nick.
